It began off the beaten track — quite literally.
Down a winding lane outside Hay-on-Wye, we built Off Grid Gourmet: a dining experience powered by the sun, the wind, and a little bit of madness. There were no dainty tasting menus or crisply starched waiters — just woodsmoke, long tables, and dishes made to share. Everything came off the fire: slow-cooked meats, charred vegetables, buttery puddings. Guests brought their own wine, and we supplied the heat, the food, and the laughter.
Nights would stretch on by the firepit, coffee and marshmallows under the stars, the kind of evenings that blurred into stories. It was simple, honest, and full of heart — food that brought people together, off-grid and off-script.
Now that same spirit has found a new home for three months— The Sun Inn, Winforton .
The fires are still burning, the flavours are still bold, and the welcome’s just as warm. The setting’s changed, but the idea hasn’t: gather people around good food, good drink, and the kind of company that makes you forget the clock.
